HUD’s mission is to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all. HUD is working to strengthen the housing market to bolster the economy and protect consumers; meet the need for quality affordable rental homes; utilize housing as a platform for improving quality of life; build inclusive and sustainable communities free from discrimination; and transform the way HUD does business. To that end, the NLRHA and development partner BGC Advantage has secured over $100 million to newly construct and substantially renovate our portfolio of properties. That is a composition of 1023 units spread among eight sites.
BUSINESS and HIRING OPPORTUNITIES
We will host a series of information sessions and job fairs for small businesses, disadvantage business enterprises, veteran-owned businesses, public housing and community residents, and schools and apprenticeships with construction-related programs.
Furthermore, the initiative promotes Section 3. Section 3 is a provision of the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Act of 1968 that helps foster local economic development, neighborhood economic improvement, and individual self-sufficiency.
The Section 3 program requires that recipients of certain HUD financial assistance, to the greatest extent feasible, provide job training, employment, and contracting opportunities for low-or very-low income residents in connection with projects and activities in their neighborhoods.
